AMD Ryzen 9 7900X 12-Core AM5 Processor - No Cooler
The AMD Ryzen 9 7900X is a 12-core desktop processor built for gaming, streaming and content creation. It delivers 24 threads at up to 5.6 GHz boost on the Zen 4 architecture, but requires you to supply your own cooler.
Why this product
12 cores, 24 threads, up to 5.6 GHz
Handles gaming, streaming and multithreaded workloads without sacrificing single-thread performance for either.
Unlocked for overclocking
Precision Boost Overdrive, Curve Optimizer voltage offsets and AMD Ryzen Master support let you tune performance beyond stock settings.
AMD EXPO memory overclocking
Compatible DDR5 modules with EXPO profiles boot at rated speeds automatically, without manual tweaking.
170W TDP, 5nm core process
Efficient die shrink keeps power draw reasonable for a 12-core chip, though a liquid cooler is recommended.
AM5 socket, no cooler included
Ships without a thermal solution, so budget for an aftermarket cooler—liquid cooling is advised for sustained boost clocks.

- AM5 socket motherboards: requires a motherboard with an AM5 CPU socket.
- DDR5 memory: pairs with DDR5 RAM; DDR4 platforms are not compatible.
- x86-64 software: compatible with any operating system and application supporting the x86-64 instruction set.
- Overclocking-capable platforms: unlocked multiplier and overclocking features work on AM5 boards that support them.
- Requires external cooler: no thermal solution is bundled; a liquid cooler is recommended for optimal performance.
Best for
- Gamers building a high-end rig
- Streamers and content creators doing simultaneous encoding
- Users who want overclocking headroom and tuning control
- Builders comfortable selecting and installing a separate cooler
Trade-offs
- Budget-conscious buyers: enthusiast-class pricing and the need to add a cooler make this an expensive entry point.
- Pre-built system buyers: this is a bare processor requiring a motherboard, cooler, RAM and case assembly.
- Users needing a cooler in the box: the lack of an included thermal solution adds cost and setup complexity.
- Workloads requiring less than 12 cores: mid-range Ryzen 7 chips offer better price-to-performance for lighter tasks.
The Powerful Gaming and Streaming Desktop Processor
Get the competitive edge with the ultimate enthusiast processor for gamers, for creators, for everyone.
