ASUS TUF Gaming VG249QM5A 23.8" 240Hz Fast IPS Monitor
The ASUS TUF Gaming VG249QM5A is a 23.8-inch Full HD Fast IPS gaming monitor built for competitive players who need fast, accurate visuals without tearing or ghosting. Its 240Hz refresh rate and 0.3ms minimum response time are paired with both AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-SYNC compatibility, so it works cleanly with either GPU platform. ASUS Gaming AI and ELMB SYNC round out a feature set aimed squarely at fast-paced multiplayer gaming.
Why this product
240Hz refresh rate for fast-paced gameplay
The panel runs at up to 240Hz, reducing motion blur between frames and giving competitive players a timing advantage in fast-paced titles.
0.3ms minimum response time
ASUS Fast IPS technology achieves a 0.3ms minimum response time, keeping moving objects sharp even at high frame rates.
Works with AMD and NVIDIA adaptive sync
It carries both AMD FreeSync Premium and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible certifications, eliminating screen tearing regardless of which GPU is in the system.
ELMB SYNC removes ghosting and tearing together
ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync runs ELMB alongside variable refresh rate simultaneously, so players do not have to choose between blur reduction and tear-free output.
99% sRGB colour coverage
The Fast IPS panel covers 99% of the sRGB colour space and 88% DCI-P3, producing accurate, consistent colour for both gaming and general use.
Built-in speakers and earphone output
Two 2W speakers and a front-panel earphone jack mean audio is available without a separate DAC or external speakers.

- Compatible with AMD GPUs via FreeSync Premium (adaptive sync over DisplayPort and HDMI).
- Compatible with NVIDIA GPUs via G-SYNC Compatible certification.
- Connects via DisplayPort 1.4 or either of the two HDMI 2.0 ports — covers most modern desktop and laptop GPUs.
- VESA 100×100mm mount pattern allows use with third-party monitor arms and wall mounts.
- 240Hz is achievable over DisplayPort 1.4; HDMI 2.0 supports up to 240Hz within its stated signal frequency range, but verify your GPU's HDMI output version before relying on maximum refresh rate over HDMI.
- Height adjustment is not supported on the included stand — tilt (+23° to −5°) is the only ergonomic adjustment available without a third-party arm.
Best for
- Competitive multiplayer players who prioritise fast frame delivery — the 240Hz panel and 0.3ms minimum response time are tuned for shooters and other reflex-dependent genres.
- Mixed GPU households — the dual FreeSync Premium and G-SYNC Compatible certifications mean it will work with whichever brand of GPU is in the system.
- Desk-space-constrained setups — at 23.8 inches and 3.4 kg with stand, it fits comfortably on smaller desks.
- Power-conscious users — typical power consumption is under 15W, and power-saving mode draws under 0.5W.
- Buyers who want cable security — the Kensington Lock slot allows physical security in shared or office environments.
Trade-offs
- Content creators needing wide colour gamut — at 88% DCI-P3, it is not suited to professional colour-critical work requiring full P3 or AdobeRGB coverage.
- Users who need ergonomic flexibility — the stand offers tilt only; there is no height adjustment, swivel or pivot without a separate arm.
- HDR enthusiasts — it supports HDR10 input but brightness is rated at 300 cd/m², which is below the thresholds expected for a full HDR viewing experience.
- Buyers wanting a large display — the 23.8-inch / 1920×1080 combination gives a relatively low pixel density, which may appear less sharp to users coming from higher-resolution or larger panels.
