Mercusys MA86XH AXE5400 Wi-Fi 6E High Gain USB Adapter
The Mercusys MA86XH AXE5400 Wi-Fi 6E High Gain USB Adapter brings Wi-Fi 6E capability and the 6 GHz band to desktop and laptop PCs that lack built-in wireless support. It suits home and office users who want to take full advantage of a Wi-Fi 6E router's tri-band speeds for HD video streaming, online gaming, and large file transfers. Two high-gain external antennas with beamforming help maintain a stable connection even at greater distances from the router.
Why this product
Wi-Fi 6E with dedicated 6 GHz band
It adds the brand-new 6 GHz band to any Windows PC, unlocking the full tri-band potential of a Wi-Fi 6E router at combined speeds up to AXE5400.
Tri-band speeds up to AXE5400
It delivers up to 2402 Mbps on both the 6 GHz and 5 GHz bands, plus 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, supporting demanding tasks like HD streaming and online gaming simultaneously.
Two high-gain antennas with beamforming
A pair of external high-gain antennas focus the wireless signal with directional precision, providing extended range and more stable connections over longer distances.
MU-MIMO and OFDMA reduce network congestion
Working with a compatible router, it receives data simultaneously alongside other devices on the same network stream, minimising lag for video and gaming traffic.
USB 3.0 interface — no PCIe slot needed
The USB 3.0 connection transfers data up to 10× faster than USB 2.0 and is backwards compatible, making installation straightforward on any machine with a spare USB port.
Pre-loaded internal driver for easy setup
The driver is built in, so it can be installed by simply plugging it in — no separate download required to get started.

- Works with any Wi-Fi 6E router for access to the 6 GHz band.
- Compatible with existing Wi-Fi routers via 802.11ax/ac/a/b/g/n standards — backwards compatible with older networks.
- Connects via USB 3.0, and is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports.
- MU-MIMO, OFDMA, and WPA3 features require the connected router or access point to also support those capabilities.
- Functionality may be restricted on some operating systems and platforms; macOS and Linux are not listed as supported.
Best for
- Desktop or laptop users without built-in Wi-Fi who want to add Wi-Fi 6E connectivity using a free USB port rather than opening the case for a PCIe card.
- Wi-Fi 6E router owners looking to connect a PC to the 6 GHz band and make use of the router's full AXE5400 tri-band capacity.
- Gamers and HD streamers who benefit from OFDMA and MU-MIMO to reduce latency and congestion on a busy home network.
- Users who want minimal setup effort, thanks to the pre-loaded internal driver that allows immediate use after plugging in.
- Users at moderate distance from their router, where the two high-gain external antennas with beamforming can extend reliable coverage.
Trade-offs
- macOS and Linux users — supported operating systems are listed as Windows 10 and Windows 11 only; functionality may be restricted on other platforms.
- Users on older Wi-Fi 4 or Wi-Fi 5 routers who will not be able to use the 6 GHz band or Wi-Fi 6E features, which require a Wi-Fi 6E access point.
- Users needing WPA3 or OFDMA security right away — these features require the router to support them and may need a driver update to enable.
- Devices without a USB port — it requires a USB 3.0 or 2.0 port and is not suitable for PCIe or M.2 slots.
MA86XH arms your PC with Wi-Fi 6E technology and the brand-new 6 GHz band, unlocking your WiFi 6E router's full potential. It seamlessly handles all your online activities, from HD video streaming to lag-free gaming and web browsing, thanks to its high-speed tri-band WiFi.†
Working with a MU-MIMO and OFDMA compatible router, your PC receives data simultaneously with other devices on the same network stream, resulting in minimal to no lag for videos and games.
Two high-gain antennas extend your router's reach with enhanced directional precision, ensuring faster and more stable wireless connections over longer distances.
Plug in the MA86XH with the internal driver and enjoy the easy and friendly installation.
USB 3.0 transfers data up to 10× faster than USB 2.0 and is backwards compatible. Combined with 802.11ax WiFi, USB 3.0 makes MA86XH perfect for HD streaming, online gaming, and large file downloads.
MA86XH fully supports the latest Windows 11.
†Maximum wireless signal rates are the physical rates derived from IEEE Standard 802.11 specifications. Actual wireless data throughput and wireless coverage are not guaranteed and will vary as a result of network conditions, AP limitations, and environmental factors, including building materials, obstacles, volume and density of traffic, and AP location. ‡Use of WPA3 requires APs to also support the corresponding feature. To use WPA3, you may need to upgrade the drivers which can be downloaded on the official website of MERCUSYS. §Use of Wi-Fi 6/6E (802.11ax) and features including OFDMA, MU-MIMO and 1024-QAM requires APs to also support the corresponding features. 160 MHz channels may not all be available in the 5 GHz or 6 GHz band in some regions/countries due to regulatory restrictions. *Functionality may be restricted on some operating systems and platforms.
