MSI AXE5400 WiFi 6E USB Adapter - Tri-Band, 5400 Mbps
The MSI AXE5400 WiFi 6E USB Adapter is a tri-band wireless adapter designed for desktop PC and laptop users who want to add WiFi 6E capability without opening their case. It plugs into a USB port and uses a built-in driver, making it a straightforward upgrade for anyone looking to access the 6 GHz band and handle crowded network environments more reliably. It suits home and office users who need improved speed and security without replacing internal hardware.
Why this product
Access the exclusive 6 GHz band
WiFi 6E extends support to the 6 GHz frequency, reducing congestion and delivering lower latency compared to 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz alone.
Tri-band speeds up to 5400 Mbps
It combines 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz, and 2402 Mbps on 6 GHz across its three bands.
Flexible antenna placement
An included cradle and adjustable, foldable external antenna let you position it where signal reception is strongest.
WPA3 encryption for stronger security
It supports WPA3-Personal and WPA3-Enterprise, adding a more robust layer of protection over older WPA2 standards.
No-tool installation via USB
It connects through a USB 3.2 Gen 1 port and includes a built-in driver, so setup requires no screwdrivers or technical experience.
OFDMA, MU-MIMO and Beamforming
These WiFi 6E technologies improve efficiency in environments with many connected devices and direct signal toward your device rather than broadcasting evenly in all directions.

Best for
- Desktop PC owners who want WiFi 6E without fitting an internal PCIe card — it plugs into a USB port with no tools required.
- Laptop users on the move who need a compact, lightweight adapter (46 g without cradle) that travels easily.
- Crowded network environments — OFDMA, MU-MIMO and BSS Coloring are specifically designed to reduce interference when many devices share an access point.
- Security-conscious users who need WPA3-Personal or WPA3-Enterprise encryption on their wireless connection.
- Windows 11 and Linux users who need plug-and-play driver support without sourcing third-party software.
Trade-offs
- macOS users — the supported OS list covers Windows 11, Windows 10 (2H22+) and Linux only; macOS is absent.
- Windows 10 users on builds earlier than 2H22 — full support requires the 2H22 update or later.
- Users without a WiFi 6E router who want to use the 6 GHz band — accessing that band requires a compatible WiFi 6E access point.
- Users needing an internal PCIe card — this is a USB adapter and does not occupy a PCIe slot, which may be preferred in some desktop builds for a cleaner installation.
